People Know How will be closed from 5pm on 22 December 2023 and will reopen at 9am on 8 January 2024.

The Connecting Scotland helpline will be paused from 22 December to 8 January. Reconnect digital groups will be paused from 20 December to 8 January. For specific information about individual groups, please visit our Reconnect page.

Edinburgh Crisis Centre

Open 24 hours a day 365 days of the year and provides community based, emotional and practical support at times of crisis. You can contact the number above for free or email 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can also text the service at 0797 442 9075.

Samaritans

You can call the Samaritans, for free 24/7 - including Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. You can contact Samaritans for help with problems of all kinds including relationship or family problems, loss or bereavement, financial worries, job or study-related stress, loneliness and isolation, depression, painful or disabling physical illness, thoughts of suicide.

CALM

The (Campaign Against Living Miserably) CALM helpline or webchat is for people in the UK who are down or have hit a wall for any reason, who need to talk or find information and support. It's open 5pm to midnight, 365 days a year and offers support for everyone who's struggling with life, no matter who they are, where they're from or what they're going through. People talk to them about all sorts of topics including isolation, anxiety, relationship concerns, health worries, financial stress and suicidal thoughts.

Shout 85258 is a free, confidential, 24/7 text messaging support service for anyone who is struggling to cope anywhere in the UK.

The Silver Line

The Silver Line Helpline run by Age UK is a free, confidential telephone service for older people across the UK offering friendship, conversation, and support for people aged 55 or over, especially those who may be experiencing feelings of loneliness and isolation. Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
