Meet our team

The People Know How team is made up of staff, trustees and our VIPs (volunteers, interns and placement students). We couldn't be prouder of every single person on this page and the impact they have on our ability to drive social innovation.

Leadership team

The Leadership Team are responsible for leading the charity, from service design to delivery to monitoring and evaluation. Each member represents a different part of People Know How and brings a unique perspective to the team allowing us to continue driving social innovation efficiently and dynamically.

Glenn established People Know How in 2013 having worked and volunteered in the third sector for over 25 years. He is values-driven to support and empower people and communities to thrive and has trained in leadership and counselling with a commitment to continuous learning and development. Glenn's role is to lead and develop People Know How, through our strategy for growth and innovation, ensuring leadership and development opportunities for staff and VIPs. He also works to establish, develop and nurture excellent collaborative relationships with all stakeholders to ensure People Know How continues to deliver the most productive and impactful difference to communities aligned to our vision, mission and values.

Claudia leads our Communications & Digital team and is passionate about communications, digital and graphic design for social impact. They manage People Know How's communications, marketing, IT, digital and campaigning as well as working as an in-house graphic designer - producing and coordinating asset and content creation, and managing our social media, publications, website, events and IT systems, leading our digital transformation. They are also one of People Know How's Inclusivity Representatives. Claudia has an MFA in Graphic Design and a broad portfolio of communications and design for organisations and individuals.

Positive Transitions team

The Positive Transitions team coordinates our Positive Transitions service, supporting children, young people and families in the transition from primary to secondary school. Through delivering youth and family work, our coordinators ensure continuity of support for school clusters across Edinburgh and the Lothians.

Neil is a PhD student in the department of social work at the University of Edinburgh. Hailing originally from the north-east of England and now living in the Scottish Borders, for 15 years he worked as a social worker in adult and children's services across Scotland. Together with the team at People Know How Neil is carrying out research to help practitioners better understand and respond to the diverse needs of those young people who struggle with their transition from primary to secondary school.

Reconnect team

The Reconnect team coordinates our Reconnect service, supporting adults and families to improve wellbeing by increasing digital and social inclusion. They deliver support to improve digital skills at digital groups in local communities as well as on our national Connecting Scotland digital support helpline, working closely with communities and local organisations.

Nishat is a PhD student in the Department of Social Work at the University of Edinburgh. Nishat has worked as a researcher, educator, and volunteer in diverse contexts in South Asia and Europe. In collaboration with People Know How, Nishat is carrying out a multi-method research study to understand the types of formal and informal support that people from minoritised backgrounds find most useful in their journey from digital exclusion to digital inclusion. By using household case studies, ethnography, and participatory mapping, this study will seek to inform initiatives, practices, and wider literature on digital inclusion in Scotland.

Spaces team

Our spaces team coordinate our spaces across Edinburgh and the Lothians, including our office spaces and our All Aboard canal boat in Polwarth.

Tudor coordinates All Aboard, including organising trips on the All Aboard canal boat and supporting our dedicated team of All Aboard volunteers. While studying for a degree in history, he sought out a variety of professional and voluntary experiences across several organisations and remains an active volunteer. Tudor is passionate about the importance of green spaces to our cultural heritage as well as to the ongoing education, active living, and mental and physical health of our communities.

Support team

Our support team support the charity to achieve its goals. From coordinating VIPs, to supporting communications, digital and fundraising, this team provides support to the charity internally, ensuring smooth running and efficient service delivery.

Lisa is our Fundraising Officer. She has over a decade of experience working in the third sector in Scotland, mainly in fundraising roles but also in events, education and community research. She also has experience of working in education, as a Media & Film Studies teacher and in Business Development in the Tech sector. She enjoys building and developing internal and external relationships and working collaboratively and innovatively to achieve our aims. She is passionate about the third sector and making a positive difference within our community.

Board of Trustees

Our trustees ensure the charity delivers on its strategy, ensuring the purpose of the charity is adhered to. They also ensure good stewardship of the assets of the charity including, physical assets, our finances, and intangible ones, such as our reputation. The board ensure good practice and professionalism in all we do especially ensuring the safety and wellbeing of volunteers, interns, placement students, staff and the people who use our services.

Ray initially joined People Know How as a volunteer, supporting our Reconnect service. He has worked for NatWest/Royal Bank of Scotland throughout his career, starting in London and the South East before relocating to Edinburgh for work in 2003. His background is diverse but mostly in Risk Management, specifically Credit Risk, Governance, Regulation and Policy. For 5 years he was an Industry Adviser to the UK Government's Money Advisory Service on Problem Debt. Ray is also a volunteer at Citizens Advice Edinburgh, and at a recently established community hub. He is a keen sports follower, mostly rugby and football, and also enjoys the theatre.

Scott is a software engineer and leader with over 10 years of experience at tech companies including Skyscanner, UserTesting and Smartsheet, building products that cater to all regardless of ability or skill. He is a keen Formula 1 fan, 3D printer enthusiast and has a strong interest in robotics, organising annual competitions and supporting others in the community.

The initiatives of People Know How and its values, particularly People-Led, resonate deeply with his own personal and professional beliefs, and he is passionate about digital inclusion.

Shona has worked in a variety of roles in the public and voluntary sectors. These roles have all involved leading strategic health and wellbeing programmes in urban and rural Scotland in partnership with national governing bodies, local authorities and voluntary sector organisations, aimed at increasing diversity in participation, with particular focus on ensuring equality of access through consultation and community empowerment.

Shona is also a coach, trainer and Associate Lecturer, working with learners from diverse backgrounds across the UK. She is passionate about putting people at the heart of decisions that affect them.

VIPs

Our VIPs (volunteers, interns and placement students) come from all over the world and across Edinburgh and the Lothians. We welcome people of all ages, backgrounds, and experiences. VIPs support all our projects and services, ranging from providing digital support to supporting children and young people, and much more. We can have up to 200 VIPs at any one time, some of whom are featured here!
