People Know How is governed by a Board of Trustees who ensure the charity delivers on its strategy, vision, mission and values. This August we welcomed Keith Dyer as our new Chair, who will lead our Board of Trustees and enable them to fulfil their responsibilities for the overall governance and strategic direction of the organisation.
Keith is a qualified social worker and coach and has been a Manager in Children’s Social Work since 2004. He is currently the Quality Assurance and Compliance Manager for the City of Edinburgh Council and has a keen interest in governance as well improving outcomes for people.
Being a trustee
Keith joined People Know How as a trustee in 2019 just months before the pandemic which would lead us to triple in size. This was also the time in which we were preparing to purchase the All Aboard canal boat in partnership with Polwarth Parish Church, as well as embarking on an organisational restructure that would transform the charity’s systems and strategy.
Having experienced these innovative advances during his first years as a trustee, Keith knew he had found an organisation with values in line with his own. As a qualified social worker with over 20 years of experience, he got stuck into supporting the charity not just through board meetings and committees, but also by getting involved with All Aboard and collaborating with our Head of Service & Research.
Chairing the board
As Chair of the Board, Keith is excited about the future of People Know How as we work towards the strategic aims outlined in our strategy.
“People Know How’s work has been key in highlighting the realities of data poverty and making sure that school transitions are as smooth as possible, all the while brokering collaboration with the third, public, business and academic sectors to innovate through partnership.”
As we move forward providing services and spaces in the community, as well as striving for country-wide change through action-research and campaigning and lobbying, the board has a key role to play in ensuring good practice and professionalism in all we do.
“I am looking forward to continuing to explore the creativity, innovation and flare that first attracted me to join the board and to seeing where we can take the charity as it moves into its next chapter.”
Join our board
With our growth comes an even greater responsibility for the Board of Trustees to govern and steer the charity in the right direction. In order to do this that board needs to be diverse and effective, with the right skills and experience to support this growth and protect the charity. This is why we’re looking for new trustees to join our board.
