Investing in our VIPs

Jack LiddallNews

A year after appointing our VIP Coordinator as part of our Strategic Plan, we’re now working towards Volunteer Scotland’s “Investing in Volunteers” award.

Meet Amy

Amy is People Know How’s dedicated VIP Coordinator. She performs the vital role of supporting all our volunteers, interns and placement students (VIPs). After the year in the role we asked her how it’s been so far:

“I have enjoyed every minute of it, developing and putting into practice support for our VIPs. It has been a fantastic experience so far, meeting new people every day!”
- Amy, VIP Coordinator

Volunteer experience is at the centre of Amy’s work. Called VIPs for a reason, volunteers, interns and placement students are the backbone of the charity’s service delivery.

“We wouldn't be able to do everything we do without our volunteers’ time, effort and support.”
- Amy, VIP Coordinator

More than just a friendly face for our VIPs, Amy provides and has expanded the range of support, supervision and feedback opportunities for all VIPs who come through our door. She delivers inductions; tailors volunteer opportunities to individual needs; reaches out to our volunteers; develops support plans and has devised an “A Plan” to be created for every VIP.

The “A Plan” centres around the skills volunteers would like to develop and experiences they would like to have. It brings to life People Know How’s mission to tap into individuals’ potential.

“I think the most important and rewarding part of my job is to help people on their journey to get to wherever they want to be. I love that People Know How can tailor-make opportunities to make sure every VIP can work towards their own personal goals.”
- Amy, VIP Coordinator

Bringing a vision to life

The role which Amy has grown to love was created as part of the charity’s wider Strategic Plan. She has been the pacesetter in developing People Know How’s vision of an exceptional volunteer support network. Undoubtedly, she has forged ahead, achieving an incredible amount in one year.

In one of our recently published research briefings on volunteer management, People Know How is used as a case study for successful implementation of best practice guidelines. This volunteer support system was largely expanded over the past year, with Amy at the vanguard. Having a specific member of staff and point of contact for VIPs has had an immense impact.

“We have always wanted to have a dedicated member of staff for our VIPs and the progress that has been made over the past year is simply fantastic.”
- Glenn, Chief Executive

Looking to the future

Always looking to further enhance the volunteer experience, Amy is leading the charity in achieving another of its Strategic Goals by working towards Volunteer Scotland’s “Investing in Volunteers” award.

“Not only has Amy shown exceptional commitment to her role and helped us realise our goals, but she has ambitious plans to express our dedication to the VIP experience by achieving a volunteer accreditation award.”
- Glenn, Chief Executive
