Finding your passion at People Know How

We’re always proud when our volunteers go on to find employment as a result of the skills they’ve developed with us! Alice is one such volunteer, who developed her communications and marketing skills with us and has now been hired in this very field!

Meet Alice Roberts, a Psychology and Business graduate who joined People Know How in September 2019. After graduating Alice was unsure of her next steps and in which direction she wanted to take her career.

Alice has been involved in a variety of projects during her time with People Know How, supporting our Graphic Designer & Communications Officer, Claudia. This has included developing a ‘Befriending Week’ campaign, collaborating on a community development project, and photographing subjects for our dog-themed Christmas fundraising calendar! She also frequently writes content for social media and news articles for our website!

Over the Christmas holidays, with the knowledge and skills gained from her volunteering position, Alice was hired as a Social Media and PR Intern at a Public Relations agency in central Edinburgh. In this role she continues to develop her social media skills, trialling new campaigns and helping clients with their social media strategies.

I had no idea what I wanted to do after university, but after discovering communications and content creation, I knew this was the career for me! Alice continues to volunteer with us in 2020 alongside her internship, keen to gain even more skills in writing articles to help in her new job, as well as getting stuck into more video projects!
