This summer we’ve been celebrating our amazing VIP community, from sharing their stories in Volunteers’ Week to throwing them a VIP Quiz Evening!
Our VIPs (volunteers, interns and placement students) are essential to our ability to support the community at People Know How, and we value the contribution of each and every one. This summer we took the opportunity to celebrate the contributions they make to the charity.
“We really appreciate what our VIPs do, so we want to thank them and show our appreciation as they are offering up their own time to help others.”
Volunteers' Week
Taking place in June, Volunteers’ Week is a celebration of the contribution that people make across the UK through volunteering.
This year we attended Befriending Networks’ Volunteers' Week event to celebrate our befrienders who support our Positive Transitions and Reconnect services through befriending with young people and adults, making a huge impact on the lives of people who use our services.
Throughout the week, we shared stories of VIPs – from Tony’s volunteering journey which helped him to gain experience and embark on a career change and masters’ degree, to our European Solidarity Corps volunteers who supported a range of our services over a 6 months placement.
We’re so grateful to all who volunteer their time to support our work, which is why we recorded a thank you video to mark the last day of Volunteers’ Week:
VIP Quiz
After a fantastic Volunteers’ Week, we didn’t want to stop there! In July we invited our VIPs to a quiz evening, hosted by Goose's Quizzes! Our staff and VIPs played through the quiz as two mixed teams. They faced questions on general knowledge, entertainment, science, nature, geography, music, and much more! It was a close race, but eventually, team ‘Christina A-quiz-lera' and their lucky snail mascot emerged victorious. Staff and VIPs enjoyed an evening of fun, food, and socialising to celebrate their ongoing contributions.
“The VIP quiz evening was a memorable experience! It was a great way of socialising with other VIPs and staff. It made me feel a sense of belonging within People Know How and I was able to connect and build a stronger relationship with my team members.”
The importance of VIPs
We call our volunteers, interns, and placement students VIPs because they’re indispensable to our services in supporting the community. Whatever role you take, you’ll have the opportunity to make new friends, gain experience and positively impact the lives of those we support.
At People Know How, we believe in creating opportunities for VIPs to grow their skills, experience, and future possibilities. Many of our VIPs use their time at People Know How as a stepping stone to future careers or simply as a way to give back and expand their horizons. Whether volunteering as a Youth Work Volunteer or joining us through a research-based internship, there is something for everyone!
