10 Year Anniversary Celebration at the Scottish Parliament
13 Dec 2023
The fourth event in our 10 Year Anniversary event series took place at the Scottish Parliament. Together with our People Know How community, friends and supported we celebrated how far we've come over the past decade, from our small office and single team member to having a dedicated team of 28 staff, two core services, a canal boat, national campaign, research projects, and partnerships across the four sectors (third, academic, business and public) throughout the UK. Thanks to all who joined us to celebrate.
Reconnect: Improving digital inclusion in Scotland
6 Dec 2023
The third event in our 10 Year Anniversary event series focused on our work supporting people to improve wellbeing through increasing digital and social inclusion. We shared our experiences in delivering our Reconnect digital support service locally and nationally through the Connecting Scotland Digital Support Helpline, as well as upcoming plans to further promote digital inclusion in Edinburgh and beyond.
Collaborating for Social Change
28 Nov 2023
The second event in our 10 Year Anniversary event series aimed to bring together thought leaders and experts from various sectors to discuss Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG). It also launched our Partnership Offering handbook. The goal of the event was to promote a deeper understanding of how collaboration among businesses, organisations, and individuals can lead to positive societal and environmental change. We saw a wonderful variety of thought leaders, businesses and academics attend, and were hosted by Franklin Templeton at their offices in Edinburgh.
Positive Transitions: Improving school transitions in Scotland

The first event in our 10 Year Anniversary event series focused on our work supporting children, young people and families in the transition from primary to secondary school, and launched our Positive Transitions Report, detailing our research and plans to improve transitions across Scotland. We were delighted to welcome teachers, partners, funders, academics and many more to the Barracks in Stirling, hosted by the Robertson Trust.
All Aboard Boat Launch
24-26 Sept 2021
In September 2021 we launched our All Aboard canal boat in partnership with Polwarth Parish Church. The launch event welcomed over 250 guests over three days, starting with thank you events for funders, partners, young people and families and a visit from the Lord Provost and STV film crew. The second day opened the space up to the public, complete with boat tours and bagpipers, and provided information on getting involved with All Aboard through volunteering and collaborating on the boat. Finally, the weekend was brought to a close with a dedication mass held by Polwarth Parish Church.
MSP Briefing on Digital Inclusion
23 Aug 2021
People Know How invited MSPs from across Scotland to our briefing session on digital inclusion and data poverty. We shared our learning from supporting over 4,000 individuals with devices, digital skills and connectivity over the past year, and delved deeper into our national campaign, Connectivity Now including a new report on our first manifesto point, regulating connectivity.
As our campaign gathers speed, we invited MSPs to discuss with us how to work together to start bringing this change into policy, to continue along the route to making our proposals a reality, ending data poverty, and achieving accessible and affordable connectivity in homes across Scotland.
Connect Four: Digital Inclusion
26 Nov 2020
In 2020 we moved online to present an event focusing on digital inclusion, in partnership with the Carnegie Trust, Good Things Foundation and SCVO. The coronavirus lockdown highlighted the need for action in Scotland to combat digital exclusion. Having delivered projects about digital inclusion since 2016, we are committed to sharing our learning and collaborating towards real tangible change.
We invited key voices from across the academic, public, third and business sectors to take part in discussions to facilitate this change towards the end goal of creating a Manifesto for Digital Inclusion. The results of this event led to the launch of our campaign to end data poverty, Connectivity Now
Connect Four Launch
18 Nov 2019
This event launched our new Strategic Plan through an evening of cross-sectoral collaboration, with the aim of making a step change and increasing our social impact.
We’ve always believed that collaboration brings the greatest results, so we marked the launch of the Social Innovation Network with an evening of facilitated discussion. Our guests represented decision-makers from the academic, public, third and business sectors. Connecting these four sectors using our four-step social innovation model, we ‘connected four’.
